Volunteer Placement Opportunities

Volunteers fill a variety of vital roles at Sinai-Grace Hospital, including:

Volunteer Patient Representative

Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Volunteer Services, the Volunteer Patient Representative will be responsible for distributing welcome packets to all newly admitted patients.  Assist with answering phones in the department along with filing and collating materials for distribution.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Customer Service experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Must have a friendly and welcoming personality
  • Four hours per week commitment

Helping Hands / Helping Hearts Volunteer

Duties: Under the direct supervision of a PCA/Nurse the Helping Hands / Helping Heart volunteer will be responsible for assisting with answering call lights, clearing trays of clutter (i.e. dentures, eye glasses, paper, etc.), passing fresh water, running errands (i.e. lab, mailroom, etc.), assist with discharging patients, making beds, assisting with patient baths, room set-up (i.e. toiletries, Kleenex, etc.) removing soiled linen from patient care area and meal set-up.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical Assistant or Patient Care Assistant training preferred
  • Desire to work in patient care setting
  • Must have a customer service friendly personality
  • Four hours per week commitment

Surgical Lounge Receptionist

Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Volunteer Services, the Surgical Lounge Receptionist will perform receptionist duties to include registering family members, maintaining the daily log of visitors waiting for patients scheduled for surgical procedures.  In addition, the receptionist will maintain continual contact with surgical department to obtain status reports on patients in surgery.  This individual will interact with staff on all levels (i.e. clerical, physicians, patients, etc.).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Customer Service oriented
  • Friendly and cordial personality
  • Clerical experience required
  • Four hour per week commitment
