The Functional Recovery Program of DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital started in 1989 to help patients who have chronic pain as a result of:
- Personal injury or accidents
- Illness
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Extremity pain
- Chronic Regional Pain Syndrom (CRPS I & II, formerly RSD)
- Postsurgical pain (laminectomy, fusion, fractures and others)
- Work-related injuries
The seven-week comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation program is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of professionals, including a neurorehabilitation psychologist, physical therapist, occupational therapist and vocational counselor. Medical Director Maury Ellenberg, M.D., is board-certified in Pain Management and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and is a clinical professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Treatment includes:
- Medical management
- General physical reconditioning
- Strength training
- Biofeedback
- Relaxation training
- Individual psychotherapy
- Vocational counseling
- Extensive pain management education
