Patients who have been diagnosed with heart failure or cardiovascular disease or have experienced a cardiac procedure will benefit from cardiac rehabilitation. Individual and group education and exercise classes help cardiac patients:
- Make lifestyle changes
- Increase cardiovascular fitness
- Manage their condition
- Slow progression of heart disease
- Maintain a healthier heart
Who can benefit from cardiac rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation may be appropriate for patients who have:
- Heart disease or are at risk for heart disease
- Undergone heart surgery
- Experienced a heart attack
- Congestive heart failure
Exercise physiologists and cardiac rehabilitation nurses staff the program to ensure the highest level of patient care. All staff is certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. In addition, patients can be monitored by EKG during exercise to help them safely exercise within their physical capability.
After a baseline assessment, cardiac rehab participant receive a personal exercise prescription. During the program, patients meet one-on-one with:
- A dietician to discuss nutritional changes
- A counselor on smoking cessation
- A pharmacist to discuss medication regimens
- Counselors regarding concerns with returning to work and social activities

DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is proud that our cardiac rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). All care is coordinated with the patient’s referring physician.
