Echocardiograms are tests that produce an image of the heart with the use of ultrasound. A transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is a special type of echocardiogram that uses an ultrasound camera inserted through the mouth and into the esophagus. A TEE may be used to provide clearer images than can be provided by an echocardiogram done through the chest wall. TEEs are often conducted on children. To allow immediate consultations with pediatric cardiologists, DMC Sinai-Grace operates a direct video telemetry link to DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
Preparing for an Echocardiogram
Your cardiologist will determine if you need an echocardiogram. Once you have been provided a referral from your physician, you may call the Echo Department at DMC Sinai-Grace to make an appointment that fits your schedule. A team member will provide all information necessary to schedule the test, necessary preps and location. To schedule an echocardiogram, call 313-966-3034.
